Big news for the mini-mall at Cabin John Village: The long-empty Toy Castle space (shown here) will soon be filled with little children again. Moving in this fall: STEM Preschool, a D.C.-area day care and early-learning program that offers age-appropriate lessons in science, technology, engineering and math. “Every two weeks we have a different theme like robotics, water lifecycle or agriculture,” says owner Portia Moore-Thomas. “Whatever the topic, we’re reading about it, we’re singing about it, we’re doing art or planting seeds. These kids will have a fun foundation of STEM before they even get to kindergarten.” Moore-Thomas says she hopes to hang onto a few of the leftover fixtures from Toy Castle, a beloved local business whose owners retired in 2020 after 41 years at Cabin John.
